Modern Cataract Surgery at Coastal Vision Center
Cataract surgery replaces the cloudy natural lens of your eye with a clear, artificial lens known as an intraocular lens (IOL). At Coastal Vision Center, we use advanced surgical techniques and lens technology to ensure optimal results, comfort, and rapid recovery. Our goal is to give you crisp, clear vision customized to your personal lifestyle needs—with options that minimize your reliance on glasses or contacts.
Understanding Cataracts
Cataracts cause the lens of your eye to become cloudy, making it difficult to see clearly. Common symptoms can include glare, halos, blurry vision, faded colors, or difficulty seeing at night. When these symptoms interfere with daily activities, cataract surgery can restore your vision.
What to Expect During Cataract Surgery
Using micro-incision technology and advanced ultrasound (phacoemulsification), your Coastal Vision Center surgeon removes the cloudy lens and replaces it with a clear, artificial lens. The procedure is quick, comfortable, and typically completed in under 15 minutes. Most patients notice improved vision within 24–48 hours, with minimal downtime and a fast recovery period.
Comprehensive Vision Packages for Optimal Results
At your cataract evaluation, our surgeons will recommend to you a series of options based on your unique visual goals. Outside of the basic cataract surgery package where you will still require prescription glasses for the best distance and near vision, we have the following packages available:
- Driving Vision: Expect high quality vision in both eyes from about 3 feet away and further. This package includes correction of astigmatism to ensure freedom from glasses at distance; most patients will only need reading glasses after surgery.
- Multifocal Vision: Provides the opportunity for dramatically reduced dependence on glasses at all distances, but reading glasses may be needed for small print.
- Personalized Vision with the Light Adjustable Lens: The Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) offers the most precise visual outcomes and potential to achieve the greatest independence from glasses of any lens we offer. After surgery, your lens power will be customized by directing a low intensity beam of UV light onto the lens. This allows for a precise adjustment to provide the exact vision you desire, which takes between 3-5 follow up appointments post-operatively to achieve. Using a blended vision technique, over 95% of patients can experience freedom from glasses.
Pricing & Financing Options
Coastal Vision Center accepts CareCredit to provide flexible payment options and financing plans for cataract surgery. Many standard cataract procedures are covered by insurance with the patient responsible for insurance deductibles, co-insurance, and/or copays; premium vision packages are an out-of-pocket upgrade, often eligible for HSA/FSA use.
Who Is a Good Candidate for IOL Selection?
- Presence of cataracts affecting daily activities
- Healthy eyes with no advanced retinal disease
- Desire for reduced dependence on glasses
- Realistic expectations and commitment to post-op care
